Green Light for Remediation Design of Fabric Covered Structures

DelDOT Fabric Covered StructureMarch 14, 2011

CAMP HILL, Penn. - On May 2nd, 2009, the Dallas Cowboys Indoor facility collapsed sending 12 people to hospitals.  The collapse occurred in wind speeds estimated to be in the 55-65 mph range, well below the code required 90 mph design wind speed. In March 2010, the manufacturer of the fabric covered facility issued a safety warning that certain buildings did not meet the requirements of applicable building codes during periods of severe weather and recommended that their customers engage structural engineer for review.

Following successful completion of the emergency inspection and analysis of 67 structures statewide for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) awarded a state-wide contract to CCJM in a similar manner. These structures range in size from 800-8,000 SF.

DelDOT has now given CCJM and our team member, The Structures Group, Inc, notice to proceed with the development of plans, specifications and contract documents for remedial design of both the foundation and structure of all DelDOT fabric-covered structures from this manufacturer.
