Cavalry Road Bridge

Location: Cumberland County, PA

Owner: Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission

Cavalry Road over TurnpikeCCJM designed the replacement of a concrete rigid frame structure along SR 1001 (Cavalry Road) over the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The replacement structure, a 252 ft. three-span continuous steel plate girder bridge increased sight distance over a dangerous crest curve. The scope of work included erosion and sediment control plans, utility relocation coordination, final roadway plans, traffic control plans, foundation report, final bridge plans, cost estimates, specifications, and project review meetings. CCJM performed a Section 4(f) evaluation, mitigating the impact on the adjacent US Army War College. The design significantly improved safety and limited traffic congestion while providing for future PTC expansion.

“Consultant was very cooperative…performed well and were very responsive to Commission requests especially due to PennDOT concerns and plan changes as a result of R/W issues. Consultant performance improved steadily throughout Final Design.”
