Columbia College 33 E CongressWith more than 120 academic programs and nearly 12,000 students, Columbia College Chicago is the largest and most diverse private arts and media college in the nation!

CCJM was thrilled to assist the College with the 5th Floor renovation at its 33 East Congress Campus building. We provided HVAC design, load calculations, power distribution design, fire alarm coordination, lighting, plumbing and security system design for this 20,000 sq. ft. renovation project, rated LEED Silver for Commercial Interiors. This is the first campus building to be certified under the LEED rating system. The project included classrooms, offices, restrooms and more. It also included a “green roof” in several areas. Green roofs reduce pollutant run-off and urban heat-island effect, and provide a high level of insulation, cutting energy costs.

Other sustainable design features included:

  • High efficiency lighting resulting in nearly 30% less electrical energy use than the energy efficiency code requires
  • High efficiency plumbing fixtures saved over 40% over EPACT fixtures
  • Over 20% of the building materials were recycled, and nearly 12% had post-consumer recycled content
