Anil Ahuja Returns to the Chicago Hamburg Business Forum, this time in Hamburg, Germany

September 9, 2013

HAMBURG, Germany - CCJM President, Anil Ahuja, continued his participation with the Chicago Hamburg Business Forum. In 2011, over 120 business and policy experts from both sides of the Atlantic came together in downtown Chicago. This year, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest organized a delegation trip to Hamburg, Germany.

This year’s focus was on “Green Building and Smart City Planning”. The sister cities of Chicago and Hamburg are well-known for their innovative technologies in the green building sector. Hamburg is one of the European role models for integrating a sustainable energy concept into a large-scale urban infrastructure project. Chicago ranks number one in LEED certified buildings, and in 2012 was named the most sustainable large community in America by Siemens, with their Siemens Sustainable Community Awards.

Anil Ahuja was again an expert panelist discussing the similarities and differences of smart city approaches in Chicago and Hamburg; the role of government and local enterprises to improve and accelerate the development of cities; relative fields of activity including housing, design and architecture, heating and power supply; and, mobility and logistics.

The forum was held during the same time that Hamburg hosted the International  Building Exhibition (IBA), adding to the exchange of ideas and an intensive dialogue on topics vital to shaping the future of Chicago and Hamburg.
