Meta Media at McGaw YMCA

Location: McGaw YMCA, Evanston, IL

Architect: Latent Design

ymcaCCJM performed full engineering of the new digital meta media lab at the Evanston McGaw YMCA.

Evanston’s McGaw YMCA MetaMedia is a new digital media lab that combines youth interests and production centered learning experience with instruction adults who support learning in a collaboration and critical way. By focusing on interest-powered and production-centered experience, MetaMedia can begin to connect youth to other learning and design principals.

The Meta (Music, Engineering, Technology, Arts) Media program requires transformation of an existing 3,400 square foot space within a historic building and underutilized 90-year-old space. CCJM provided structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design and construction administration services on this innovative project. CCJM analyzed the historic pan joist concrete roof and floor structure and designed structural renovations to accommodate updated mechanical, plumbing and electrical as well as architectural slab infills at abandoned stair openings and interior partition modifications.

The Meta Media lab was delivered on time and on budget and exceeded the client’s expectations.
