Purple Line Light Rail Transit System

Purple Line LogoC.C Johnson & Malhotra, P.C. (CCJM) is a core sub-consultant to the Purple Line Transit Partners team’s design-build of the Maryland Purple Line light rail transit system.The Purple Line is an east-west light rail system from New Carrollton in Prince George’s County to Bethesda in Montgomery County. This 16-mile long rail connects to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Metrorail systems Red, Green, and Orange Lines and provides connectivity to the Maryland Area Rail Commuter Camden Line, AMTRAK and local bus systems. The system will have 21 stations and one short tunnel.

The Purple Line is a Public-Private Partnership (P3) with a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain (DBFOM) methodology used to construct the rail line.

Purple Line MapCCJM is providing design services for the following project elements:

  • Light rail bridges over roads and creek along the alignment
  • Retaining walls adjacent to the bridges
  • Retaining walls where needed in areas of cut and fill
  • Relocation of sanitary lines with the Right-of-Way
  • Relocation of water mains (up to 60″ diameter) within the Right-of-Way
  • Design of storm water systems along the retaining walls
