Tuthill Corporate Headquarters
Burr Ridge, IL

The Tuthill Corporation decided to build a new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters.  The project goal was to design an energy-efficient, sustainable building.  The final design plan was a 2-story, 51,900 sq. ft. building on 22 acres of land.

CCJM’s design incorporated high efficiency glazing systems to reduce solar gain and external shading overlap to control natural lighting levels inside the space; an interior lighting system utilizing photovoltaic sensors and indoor space occupancy sensors to mechanically operate window screens that maintain constant indoor lighting levels; an emergency power system designed to automatically shed non-critical loads during a power failure through the state-of-the-art Direct Digital Controls (DDC) system that controls the operation of the other building systems; and, an open-plenum, raised-floor system.

Five years after construction and occupancy, CCJM reviewed the building system performance for conformity to design objectives.  All is well!

Energy savings of nearly 40% over similar traditionally designed buildings!

Awarded 1st Place 2001 Excellence in Engineering Award by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Illinois Chapter, for Energy Efficiency!
