Museum of Science & Industry
West Pavilion HVAC Upgrade
Chicago, IL

The West Pavilion at Museum of Science & Industry has original HVAC systems from 1937.  The institution hired CCJM Engineers to perform an investigation and to document these existing systems to produce a performance based design/build RFP along with commissioning services.

The scope included a Feasibility Study, RFP Development, Construction Phase Oversight and Energy Modeling.  CCJM surveyed, evaluated and documented the building’s existing conditions; evaluated alternate schemes; established design objectives, constraints and criteria and prepared a report documenting our findings with cost estimates and recommendations.

The location of the HVAC systems, limited space, a limited budget, and the phasing requirements made the project very challenging.  We provided documents to procure design-build bids, conducted an in-depth analysis of the bids and made recommendations to the museum.  Our recommendations included modification of piping systems and controls to improve system efficiency, reliability and maintainability.  CCJM reviewed design documents, shop drawings and O&M manuals to ensure the system was built to meet the Owner’s expectations.
