Major Roles and Responsibilities
The major roles and responsibilities of the Construction Engineer – Mechanical include:
- Provide mechanical engineering support for transit related engineering and field personnel during construction, equipment inspection, and replacement
- Coordinate and develop mechanical-related scopes of work, work packages, and construction schedules
- Prepare supporting correspondence for the transit related Task Manager’s final decisions
- Facilitate and oversee execution of field operations by coordinating field support, schedules, materials, and access of transit and contractor staff
- Participate in surveys and field data collection, and maintain data organized in file structures and spreadsheets
- Perform site visits, and participate in progress meetings to monitor project progress, quality control, testing, and acceptance of the equipment and systems
- Monitor implementation of construction activities, per program schedule, scope, and budget.
Background and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related Field is preferred
- A minimum of ten (10) years of construction or related engineering experience, with at least two (2) of the ten (10) years in the transit industry
- Familiarity with transit design criteria and standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (all applications)
- Physical ability to access any of the locations and perform a hands-on Inspection, if required
- Must be able to successfully complete any relevant transit Certification Class
- OSHA 10-hour (Construction) certification
- Must pass Background Checks
